26. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FAT OF THE UPPER EYELID IN ASIANS

Abstract
Objective: Conducts a literature review on the characteristics of upper eyelid fat in Asians to provide a deeper insight into this field, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of upper eyelid cosmetic surgery.
Search strategy and literature review: Relevant literature was collected from electronic databases and reputable journals, using keywords. The data was analyzed and synthesized to identify key findings.
Results: Asians possess distinct and unique anatomical features in this area, such as the potential presence of an additional subcutaneous fat layer in the upper eyelid, the thickness of the retro-orbicularis oculi fat layer, and the preseptal fat layer. The post-septal fat compartments, in addition to the two primary fat pads - the central fat pad and the nasal fat pad - also include accessory fat pads, transitional fat pads, and Eissler’s fat pad. These fat pads may exhibit significant anatomical variations, which are critical considerations during surgical procedures.
Conclusion: The upper eyelid fat in Asians tends to be thicker and contains more fat compartments compared to other populations.
