9. DEMAND FOR COSMETIC SURGERY TYPES AND RELATED FACTORS IN VIETNAM: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY

Abstract

Objective: To determine the demand for different types of cosmetic surgery, the proportion of cosmetic surgery performed, and some factors related to the demand for popular types (eyes and nose).


Methods: Cross-sectional research design, a total of 1684 patients at two cosmetic facilities, Khoa Thao Cosmetic Clinic and Thanh Van Cosmetic Hospital, from January 2018 to June 2019, were included in the study. Data were collected through the extraction of patients’ medical records.


Results: Among 1684 people who went to cosmetic clinics, the % of those wanting eye surgery was 80.7% of those wanting nose surgery was 22.4%. Among them, 95.7% of patients decided to undergo cosmetic surgery, with eye and nose surgeries being the most commonly performed types of cosmetic surgery. In multivariate analysis, the older group had a higher demand for eye cosmetic surgery, while the younger group had a higher demand for nose cosmetic surgery.


Conclusion: Eye and nose surgeries are the two types of cosmetic surgery in high demand. Age is related to the demand for eye and nose cosmetic surgeries.
